Healthy Homes Strategy – Unified Federal Agencies

Advancing Healthy Housing – A Unified Federal Action

We are excited to share with you news regarding the newly published report, Advancing Healthy Housing: A Strategy for Action. The Strategy for Action unifies federal action to advance healthy housing, demonstrating the connection between housing conditions and residents’ health, and promotes strategies and methods intended to control and prevent major housing-related exposures and hazards in a cost-effective manner.

5 MINUTES TO A HEALTHIER HOME

Health is not just about the quality of your health care, it’s also about where you live and the home you live in.

It is estimated that over 30 million U.S. housing units have significant physical problems and/or elevated levels of lead, radon, or other contaminants placing occupants at risk for potential illnesses and injuries.

The Strategy for Action will guide federal action, which will in turn influence, the activities of state and local governments, and private and non-government organizations’ toward contributing to the substantial reduction in the number of American homes with health and safety hazards.

On Monday, February 4, 2013, leaders of five U.S. federal agencies joined together in a press event to announce the launch this bold new vision. Visit the interagency website, www.HUD.gov/healthyhomes to watch a webcast of the event, learn more about the Strategy, and see a video from the soon-to-be-released Healthy Homes consumer website.

We encourage you to promote this national initiative in order to help bring attention to the effort to support healthy housing for all Americans regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, income level or geography
